Krapanj is the lowest and smallest inhabited island in the Adriatic. In the last century, it was also the most densely populated island, with 1,500 inhabitants, while today, due to significant emigration, there are around 200 residents. Krapanj is known for its tradition of diving and sponge harvesting, and today the locals are increasingly involved in tourism.
On Krapanj, there is the 15th-century Monastery of St. Cross, featuring valuable exhibits in the museum and church. The patron saint of the island is Our Lady of the Angels (August 2), when a procession with her statue is held through the village.
At Hotel Spongiola, you can visit the Diving Museum, and Krapanj also has the St. Lawrence Museum and an oil mill from the 15th century, two art galleries, and souvenir shops. During the season, fishing evenings are organized with a cultural and artistic program. Several taverns offer traditional Mediterranean dishes made from fresh local ingredients.
The island has a supermarket, while shopping centers on the mainland are 3 km away. To reach the mainland, Brodarica is only 300 m away, with a ferry running every hour, as well as a taxi boat available at any time, day or night.
